Floors!!!

The house got new carpeting upstairs and it looks fantastic!

I shopped around for carpeting and ended up going with Lowes.  A neighbor was going to install it for me, but Lowes even beat his installation price buy a few hundred dollars.  The carpet I got was a mid-grade carpet.  I had thought about going with the cheapest, but it really looked like cheap carpeting.

While the carpeting was being tacked down, I worked on turning the old countertops into new and pretty granite countertops.

The above photo doesn't look all that bad, but trust me, the countertops were in poor condition.  They had burns, scratches and other marks on them.

I taped and sprayed em; it was fun!

Fun and cheap.  Although, unlike cheap carpeting, the cheap countertop fix did not look cheap when it was all finished.

They turned out nicely, and all it cost was $7 for spray paint and $10 for polyurethane to seal it smooth.

Hey-- Did ya notice?--- The kitchen floor is new too!!!

The dining room, kitchen, bathroom, and back porch all got new linoleum!  I still need to cut some quarter round, but it's almost all done!!!!!  The fridge was tricky to work around.  The doors had to come off and it had to be moved into the living room for a bit.

I painted cupboards, inside and out.  In fact, I still have some touch-up painting here and there to do.

The thing that was nice about the old linoleum was that I didn't have to be concerned with slopping paint on it.   I spray painted a bistro set that I picked up at a yard sale.

The paint job made it look like a brand new set!!!

I think it will work out to enhance and highlight the breakfast nook.

I had planned on painting the existing bathroom linoleum floor, but was delighted to find enough leftovers to cover it.  The wood floors were "a horse of a different color" though.  The wood floors after being scrubbed:

I honestly didn't know how these floors would turn out and I wondered if perhaps they were too far gone.

I used a primer that was made for covering water damage as the floor had several of those spots.

The brush work was fun and easy.  I found it to be relaxing and therapeutic.  ;-)

After I rolled the primer on, I knew all was going to be okay-- the floors could be saved!

The primer looked good and when I arrived at the house the next morning, I was afraid to step on the floor.  The floor was dry and shiny.

The paint color for the floor is called cowboy hat.  I renamed it-- "Mom's Coffee," though.

The color was awesome and I felt warm vibes from it!  :-)

Speaking of warm vibes, I was at the beauty salon the other day, and flipped through the latest copy of Country Living.

To my surprise, right there on the first page, was a white house with a bright yellow door!!!  YES!  I knew I was a trend setter and painting my doors yellow would catch on.  Sure enough, it did.  ;-)

The carpeting was the last thing for the upstairs. It's a great feeling to be done with such a big section of the house.

I do have ideas for staging the upstairs.  I think that will be fun.

In decorating my home, I find it challenging just to keep things put away as opposed to having a disastrous mess.  When decorating a staged house, I don't have to concern myself with finding a place for the hubby's golf clubs.

The new carpeting really gives the place that new house feel.

According to the paperwork, the house is well over 100 years old!!!

I think, if houses had feelings, it would like the way it was dressed.  ;-)
