Next House

Did I show ya'all the light cover Mom found at the resale shop?  I like it!

I've had a few lookers and the house has been on the market just over a week now!

Mom and I have been doing a few small touch up projects at the house, like polishing the faucet and such.

The flowers are beginning to wake-up!

The comments on the house have all been good except for one thing everyone so far has disliked-- the washer and dryer are in the basement!

I wouldn't be crazy about hauling laundry up and downstairs either, plus the basement access door is outside.

Sooo, we made plans to put a stackable washer/dryer unit on the main floor.

Another issue is the air mattress doesn't want to stay inflated.  I could understand it if it had a hole in it, but I cannot find a leak anywhere!!!  Who's sucking out my air???!!!

The make shift bed has left the premisses.

I can't wait for the chance to install the plumbing and set up the stackable unit.  I think buyers will really feel like it's the house for them once it's completed!

I got the chance to visit some other properties on the market.  I am optimistic that this $$$ project will have favorable results.

The small ranch house on a slab seems to be an easy fixer upper.  The only thing I disliked about it was the fact that it was on a slab.

It has electrical and plumbing issues, both of which I am confident I could remedy.

I liked the little shack in the back yard and the location of the property seemed like a nice area.

Poor trees; that clothesline cannot be comfortable!

The cozy house, had a little, fake gas fireplace-- kinda cute.

I could see this place as a good candidate for a nice winter project.  Someone went a little crazy with a caulking gun!

The paneling was badly warped in every room in the house.  I reckon it's a result of being left cold and empty.

It's too bad so much damage occured.

Wavy walls tend to indicate the right environment for moldy conditions, although I was happy not to find any mold.

I will be keeping that house in mind, if I am lucky enough to get to do another project this winter.  However, the next house I looked at, I liked even better, but more because it suits my tastes more.

I like brick houses, with tall windows and fancy trim.

I like wood furnaces for supplemented heat.

The roof would need checked out, but it didn't seem to be too bad, although I wasn't thrilled with the low pitch and all those heavy shingles over the small section.  Roofing in the wintertime isn't a thing here in Northwest Indiana.

The back yard was nice, minus the trash in the woods.  It borders the train tracks, but one can expect that in a town named Union Mills.

The house had some built-in's which I like.

Also, I am a fan of porches and both were enclosed and fairly large!  ++

I would definitely restore the windows and this view.  The inside windows were boarded up and painted over.

The house had several charming features.  I would have been ecstatic if it had the original woodwork throughout the place.

Sadly, the house was a bad example of an attempt at remodeling.

The above kitchen floors were extremely uneven.  That was the worst feature in the entire house.

I could envision this house being very luxurious with the proper attention & amenities.

I seen potential in it to say the least.

Even if the crooked ceilings were intimitdating.

I like wood floors.

Old coal doors.

And... umm...that's it for now.

The basement was tomblike with it's narrow passages.

Someone did attempt to spruce it up with dolls.

Every nook in it had a doll.

The hot water heater and softener looked decent.

As did the furnace:

And the basement was dry with no signs of water damage.

Outback was a wood/coal furnace too.

I have ideas for this baby!

Overall the brick house was my favorite, but I do need to remind myself that I do not get to live there.  Still, the thought of making a place how I personally would want it is delightful, even if it's not all that practical right now.

Mom, my sister, Roni, and daughter Jean, took a tour of the last house I was considering.

I am a sucker for rock houses!

The inside did not impress me.  I had hoped the fireplace would be made of the prettiest field stones.

The inside was a smelly, moldy mess of trouble.

Now if only I could take the clawfoot tub from here and put it to the other house!  I may have to keep that in mind.

As long as I am shopping, I'll take the cherub lights and carved mirror too please!

The house could be restored, but the mold issue was a major concern.

I wasn't thrilled with the lack of care the addition was added on with.  Who smacks a wall right over a window?

The mold issue may not have been a big deal, until I seen the roof.  Tarps are not a good sign.  For it means, the roof was beyond just a patch, and needs some structural work.

The mice were working on bring the Black Plague back.

The house had the death vibe in it.

I didn't like it.

I had hopes it would have turned out to be a hidden gem, for the realtor was reluctant to show it.  Sadly, it wasn't what I had hoped it would be.

So far, the other two houses have a strong chance of being my next project.  In fact, I may have went so far as to place a bid on the brick house, but as an investor, I am not allowed to for a few more weeks, as resident buyers have dibbs.  After the designated time period, if the house is still up for grabs, then I may have a chance to make an offer.  We shall see what happens....  :-)
