The First Week

I closed on Tuesday and have worked on the house for three and half days now!  Each day, I came home completely exhausted and it felt great!

After the closing, Mom and I went to the house and found it still full of stuff.  We cleaned, and sorted.  That evening we went home, showered, and then went to the Hacienda for a celebration supper.

I decided speak Spanish for the rest of that evening.  I might know approx 4-5 Spanish words.  :-)

I ordered a wet burrito, and Mom ordered a HUGE combo plate!

Plus, there was CAKE!

It was actually a fund raiser supper for Mom's friend's anniversary celebration.  However, for Mom and I, we had our own reasons to celebrate too!

Thursday was the day I fixed the window!  I stopped by Menards to pick up some supplies.  FYI-- they do not cut glass there.

Sooo, I went to the local Ace Hardware store and got a sheet of glass cut to fit.  Ewww, that desk looks gross even in the pic:

Another project, was to install deadbolt locks and new handle locks on the front, back, and basement doors.

The window pane replacement went smoothly.  I removed all the old putty and glacier tips.

These little metal triangles are the glacier tips:

They help to hold the glass in place.  Then putty goes over them in order to weatherproof the frame and secure it in place.

I knew all those years of playing with Play Dough and Silly Putty would eventually pay off!!!  :-)

TaaaDaaaaa-- a nice, new, window pane!

Installing the deadbolt locks was a piece of cake, too!

I had help with it.

The disgustingly filthy door.

I got a new back door too.

The outside of the house really doesn't look so bad.

Mom stuck a FREE sign next to the pile of old blankets and stuff from the house.

Mom and I both thought the place looked much nicer without that sticky, stinky, carpeting.  I ripped and cut small section of carpet out at a time, that way I could carry the sections to the road for garbage pick-up.

I tried to clean the ceilings using a damp mop.

It only seemed to make the stains worse.  My hope is that the primer will take care of all the stains and won't let them bleed through.

We shall see on Monday if indeed it works!  Fingers Crossed!!!
